Salt Spring Zen Circle Spring Retreat ~ 4 – 7 April 2019

Retreat Information

Thank you for your interest in our 2015 Spring Retreat, to be held from Thursday evening, April 4, 2015, at 7:00 PM, until Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2015, at 3:00 PM. The retreat is held at Stowel Lake Farm on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. We look forward to practising with you.

Space is limited, so we encourage you to register early. Please read the retreat information carefully before filling out the Registration Form below.

SESSHIN PRACTICE 

The practice during this retreat (sesshin in Japanese) is based on the traditional Zen approach, and can be quite rigourous for newcomers. There are approximately ten periods of silent meditation per day (25 to 30 minutes each in duration) plus several other practice opportunities. Participants should have some previous experience with such a retreat schedule. If you do not, please discuss this with the registrar.

Our retreats are rigourous and are not recommended for those new to meditation practice. Please let us know if you have participated in one or more meditation retreats and/or if you have an established meditation practice.

Housing 

Stowel Lake Farm: 

A limited number of shared rooms are available on site at Stowel Lake Farm (SLF).

Camping is also available at SLF.

Rates and further information for housing at SLF will be sent you by our housing coordinator if you are interested in this option. Please indicate below if you wish to receive information about staying at SLF.

Billeting: 

Salt Spring Zen Circle members offer billets in their homes at no cost. Since billets are limited, please register early to improve the likelihood that we can billet you.

Please tell us if you have any physical or mental health concerns that we should be aware of. We provide mats and firm cushions (zafus) for meditation. Chairs and some kneeling benches are available for those who need them.

Following Zen tradition, we schedule a daily work practice of about 90 minutes. Please tell us if you have concerns about or limitations to participation in work practice.
